The RooR bong is the perfect size for a small child to use. It’s also great for beginners, as it has an easy-to-hold handle and comes with all the tools you need to start smoking pot.
“I’m going to teach your mom how to smoke marijuana,” my father said when I was about 7 or 8 years old. He had me sit on his desk while he filled up this big glass pipe that looked like something out of some science fiction movie—it was tall and wide.
Then he held the stem in front of my face, instructing me to “Just take hold of this thing here.” And so began my first-ever attempt at weed consumption.
It didn’t last long, though. My dad got me high once or twice more before I figured out what was going on and why I felt so awful after each experience. But by then, it was too late.
When I tried again several months later, I inhaled a huge lungful of thick green smoke straight into my little lungs, where they promptly exploded from their sockets. That night I went home crying because I couldn’t figure out whether I wanted to be a smoker.
Fast forward three decades, and here we are today. Marijuana legalization is happening left and right across America, but there still aren’t many products available to help people kickstart their cannabis habit.
The best way to learn how to consume weed is through trial and error, which can lead to serious mistakes. Luckily, Humboldt County-based California company Roar offers a RooR Little Sister bong (also known as the Roar Junior) that makes getting stoned easier.
What Is This Thing?
Roar manufactures two types of RooR bongs. One is designed specifically for novice smokers who want to try pot without having to deal with large bowls and complicated pipes. The other model is meant for a smaller option with better airflow control.
Both models feature a unique design that allows them to fit inside most standard-sized ashtrays. They’re both made of stainless steel and come with various color options. Prices start at around 45 dollars.
Both versions have similar features. Each includes a bowl that fits over the mouthpiece, a ceramic screen filter system that sits between the bottom of the bowl and the user’s lips, and an adjustable knob that controls the amount of air coming out of the device.
On the larger version, these knobs rotate independently of each other, allowing users to adjust how much gas flows through the bowl. In contrast, the smaller version only has one knob regulating flow throughout the unit. Once you’ve mastered using either type of bong, you’ll probably gravitate towards one style or another, depending on your preferences.

How Does It Work?
If you’re new to the pot, the process is pretty simple. First, put water in the chamber below the bowl and light up. Next, place the bowl directly above the flame until the vapor begins pouring out. Finally, suck down hard on the mouthpiece and let go slowly. If done correctly, you should have a cloud of super potent, hot green smoke filling the room.
For experienced stoners, however, things become slightly trickier. Just like any good joint, you’ll need some kindling. For this particular bong, you’ll need four pieces of fresh material ranging anywhere from 3 inches to 12 inches long. Stuff the stems of these sticks into the holes under the screen.
Once everything is properly positioned, run the lighter underneath the stick closest to you. Press it against the material next to it as soon as the tip heats up. Continue this process until enough heat builds up beneath the whole assembly that the wood will ignite. Now you can blow on the fire to keep it burning strong. Repeat this process with different sections of the bong until every inch of its interior is covered in flames.
Where’d You Get It?
You might think that finding quality weed would be tough, considering prohibition laws make obtaining it illegal. Well, guess again! After becoming popular on the west coast during the 1990s, the weed market boomed all over North America thanks to increased demand. Today, almost anyone can buy legal weed online or head to Amsterdam to partake in the world’s biggest weed party.
Fortunately, the RooR bong wasn’t created to circumvent federal law. Instead, it was developed by a group of entrepreneurs who were tired of seeing older members of their community struggle with traditional methods of consuming THC.
According to the website, the founders of Roar came together back in 2006. They decided to develop a superior product that could meet the needs of inexperienced consumers interested in trying marijuana for the first time. Combining their collective knowledge, creativity, and innovative spirit, they crafted a revolutionary piece of equipment capable of efficiently delivering a powerful dose of THC.
When asked how they ended up creating such a complex apparatus, founder Greg Loomis told High Times magazine, “[We] built our original prototype while living in Hawaii. We smoked daily and knew exactly what we needed to improve upon. Our engineering team took our ideas and ran with them.”
Roar operates out of Humboldt County, CA, the heart of medical marijuana production in the United States. With plenty of land dedicated solely to growing medicinal plants like tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes, Humboldt County produces a lot of weeds.
However, according to Weedmaps, Humboldt isn’t even ranked among the top ten counties producing recreational weed. So if you live outside of northern California, don’t worry. The RooR doesn’t require a local source of supply.
The founders say they chose Humboldt because it’s ideal due to its proximity to Canada and Mexico, so customers won’t have to wait weeks for delivery. Not only that, but since it’s within driving distance of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Sacramento, Reno, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Oakland, shipping shouldn’t be a problem.
Regarding pricing, the RooR costs $44.95 plus tax per individual purchase on the website. Depending on your state, you may receive free samples via mail or email.
Who Makes These Things?
While Roar manufactures its products, most materials used to create the bongs originate overseas. Most notably, the ceramic components are imported from China, while the metal parts are sourced from Germany and Italy.
This is typical of many companies operating in the budding industry. Since marijuana remains classified as a Schedule 1 drug under U.S. Federal Law, producers often must work extra hard to ensure compliance with regulations imposed by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Unlike alcohol manufacturers, who enjoy access to millions of square feet of industrial space and advanced machinery, producers of cannabis have relatively few resources at their disposal. Although they may lack the ability to grow their weed, they can turn to foreign sources that specialize in producing specific elements necessary for processing hemp.
One example is the German manufacturer specializing in making precision cutters and grinders for extracting cannabinoids from plant matter. Another is a Canadian firm that uses sophisticated technology to extract THC from the flowers of female Cannabis sativa plants. Together, these machines produce nearly 90 percent of the active ingredients contained in recreational marijuana sold legally in Colorado.
So if you feel like giving the RooR a shot, rest assured, knowing that the folks behind it know what they’re doing.
In terms of downsides, I suppose someone addicted to nicotine might struggle with cravings. Also, if you’re a beginner smoker, the effects of taking hits from a bong can vary widely depending on your tolerance level.
Anyone hoping to quit completely should consult a doctor before starting. Lastly, although RooRs are typically quite durable, I wouldn’t recommend letting kids play with them. Their small stature makes them prone to breaking easily.
